As a travel blogger, you know how important it is to attract as many readers as possible to your blog. It’s important for many people to be part of an online community these days, whether it’s an entrepreneur like Brian Magierski or a lawyer like Aaron Kelly, so they can reach out to clients. But for you, it’s even more important; reaching your readers online is the very backbone of your business since it’s entirely online. That’s why, in addition to hitting your SEO targets and perfecting every blog post, you need to master Instagram.
But you know that you could be doing better on Instagram. You’ve seen influencers get famous on it overnight, and you’ve connected with other bloggers who seem to be getting more followers than you are. So if you want to get even more popular, use these hacks.
Use hashtags–and then some more
One of Oberlo’s biggest Instagram tips is to use hashtags. It’s likely that’s something you’re already doing, but are you doing it correctly? According to their blogger Nicole Martins Ferreira, “In every Instagram post, you should always include up to 30 hashtags. Thirty is the max. Typing them out every time will be annoying. So feel free to add a note or file on your phone and copy and paste them every time. Your hashtags should be in the first comment of every post you write. For my online store, I would add about 25-30 hashtags per post. I found it helped me grow my following quickly.”
In terms of which hashtags you should be using, don’t forget to create one for your blog, like #RickyTravels. You can also use a resource like Hashtagify to find out which ones are most effective when it comes to travel, being a digital nomad, and more. And if you can, use several languages. 80 percent of Instagram users come from outside the US, and geotags will find you an international audience as you fly from country to country.
Change to an Instagram business account
One of the best features that Instagram now has is the Instagram business account. And even if this started out as a resource for ecommerce companies and brick-and-mortar stores, any business can use it now. Even artists and musicians have switched over because it’s a sure-fire way of getting more followers. Instagram’s got 500 million users, and this is a great way to get their attention because this account guarantees you’ll appear on their radar.
According to Entrepreneur, Instagram business accounts “allow access to analytics, or as they call them, Insights, giving users access to impression and engagement data. If you use your Instagram account for your business, you might want to consider converting your personal profile to a business profile in order to take advantage of these options.” Once you’ve switched, you’ll start to see a huge difference, with more comments and likes than ever before.
Additionally, having an Instagram business account allows you to provide followers with more information about your blog. In addition to the usual link available on normal accounts, you can give them your email address (great for clients looking for ad space on your site), place yourself in a business category (so you’re easier to find on searches), and connect to your blog’s Facebook page.
Advertise on other accounts
Believe it or not, one of the best ways to make your Instagram popular is by placing ads on other Instagram accounts. But the fact is, 75 percent of Instagram users take action (for example, visiting a website or leaving a comment) after seeing an advertisement. So if you can advertise your blog on Instagram, with an ebook on how to travel cheap through France, for example, you’ll suddenly get lots of visitors.
According to Richard Lazazzera, one of the biggest ecommerce bloggers out there, “My number one Instagram strategy for getting massive exposure and building a huge audience is to find large Instagram accounts that are already catering to your demographic and pay for sponsored posts on them. It’s the cheapest CPM (cost-per-thousand impressions) of any ad platform right now.”
Use Instagram stories
Finally, you’ll want to use Instagram stories, one of Instagram’s newest features. If you’re looking to attract Gen Zers and millennials, then definitely use this feature. In 2017, over 250 million people used it every day, and that number is sure to grow!
